Bankside is well located on London's South Bank. Tate Modern is just across the road and Shakespeare's Globe, St Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye, HMS Belfast, Tower of London and Tower Bridge are all just a stroll along the river. Vinopolis, Borough Market, London Dungeon and Imperial War Museum are also close by.
We offer a range of clean, comfortable rooms from singles to quads. Many of our rooms are en-suite.
History to the present day
Bankside House was converted into a student residence for LSE in 1995. Prior to this it was the offices for the Bankside Power Station - now Tate Modern - designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, most famous for his design of the red telephone box.
Food and Drinks
Accommodation at Bankside comes with an excellent breakfast- you get a choice of six items from a range of continental and English options.
Lunch and dinner is available for much of the summer - please check with the restaurant on arrival for opening times. Bankside is also surrounded by a growing number of excellent restaurants and cafes, ranging from Italian to Sushi.
The bar in the basement is a good way to relax at the end of the day. The bar also boasts Sky TV and games.
Vending Machines are available 24 hours a day in the lobby and basement.

You can check-in anytime after 3pm as reception is manned 24 hours a day. If you arrive early or leave late we can store your luggage for you free of charge.
How to find us: Bankside is ideally located for exploring London with easy access to all parts of the city!
Bankside House is located mid-way between Southwark (Jubilee line), Waterloo (Jubilee, Northern, Bakerloo lines) and London Bridge Stations (Jubilee and Northern lines) From there just follow the signs to the Tate Modern, about a 10 minute Walk. Cannon Street is just across the River, again just follow the signs for the Tate Modern.
The 381 and RV1 buses from Waterloo pass close to Bankside House as do the 45 and 63 from Kings Cross/St Pancras - just get off at the Tate Modern stop and follow the signs.
From Heathrow: Heathrow is easily accessible via London Underground. Bankside can be reached by using the Piccadilly line to Green Park and then take the Jubilee Line to Southwark. From Southwark station follow the Orange Lamposts towards the Tate Modern and you will see us on your right, just beyond the iconic Blue Fin Building.
From Gatwick: Take the Thameslink Service to Blackfriars Station. From Blackfriars follow the directions to the Tate Modern, we are just behind.
From Stansted: Take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street Station and then take the Central Line to St. Pauls Station. From there follow the signage to Tate Modern, Bankside House is just behind the Tate Modern.
From Luton: Take the Thameslink service to London Bridge.
From City: Take the DLR to Canning Town. At Canning Town change onto the Jubilee Line to Southwark.
From Eurostar: take the Northern Line to London Bridge Station and follow the signs to the Tate Modern.
Please note: Blackfriars underground station will be closed until late 2011. The circle and district lines can be accessed via Cannon Street Station a 10 minute walk from Bankside House. Overland rail services are still serving Blackfriars Station.
