History to the present day
Brunel has been a University since 1966. It is named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, arguably the most famous of Victorian engineers. He applied his inventive imagination with outstanding success to the new technologies of his age and, in adopting Brunel’s name, the University sought to emulate his qualities - ingenuity, rigour and creativity combined with practicality and thoroughness.
A tangible link with Brunel the man remains in a stretch of cutting from a spur line from his famous Great Western Railway, which bisects the Uxbridge Campus. Brunel was one of ten new universities created from colleges of advanced technology but it very quickly developed a particular expertise not only in Science, Engineering and Technology, but also in the Social Sciences - Human Sciences, Law, Economics and Politics.

Miss AIKATERINI AKESTORIDI, July 2011: Facilities above standard. Room maintenance exceptional thanks to your carefully working cleaning staff. Receptionist very friendly to assist upon any request. It would be appreciated if bouffet breakfast included fresh fruit, cold cuts, cheese so as one could alternate with standart british breakfast options. Nonetheless, quality and taste were satisfactoty.
