Situated in Central London along the bustling Strand, Duchy House is within easy reach of major attractions such as: Somerset House and The Courtauld Gallery, South Bank London, Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Oxford Street.
Excellent travel links make Duchy House easy to get to, with 5 underground stations less than 800 meters from the property and several bus routes operating nearby.

The residence has 64 single occupancy bedrooms across four floors, with lift access, within a fully refurbished 19th century building.

Guests have a choice of rooms varying in size, and with either en suite or shared bathroom facilities. All guests have access to kitchens located on each floor for basic self-catering, with common rooms and an onsite laundry also present. The property is also secured by a card key entry system and 24 hour CCTV coverage.

Duchy House is operated by The Courtauld Institute of Art, one of the world’s leading centres for the study of the history and conservation of art and architecture.

Duchy House offers self-catering accommodation with a communal kitchen located on each floor. Each kitchen is equipped with cooking appliances and basic cookware. A mini supermarket is located directly opposite the residence with several larger stores within walking distance.

For those wishing to go out there are many restaurants and bars close by. Covent Garden is only a 5 minute walk from Duchy House with Leicester Square a further few minutes from there. Another 5 minute walk and you're across the river, where the Southbank offers dining as well as some of London's leading cultural venues.

From Monday - Friday 2pm - 6pm you will need to visit our main reception located within The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, WC2R 1HG. This is located less than 50 meters from Duchy House.

For arrivals at the weekend, or after 6pm Monday - Friday you will need to go to Duchy House for your check-in and use the intercom to dial room 1A where you'll be greeted by a member of our team. Contact our team via the phone number listed on your confirmation email should you require any assistance.

How to find us:

Duchy House is close to several underground stations, with directions for some listed below:

Temple (District/Circle Line) - Exit the station and turn left. Walk up the stairs then turn left onto Temple Place. Cross the road and turn right onto Surrey Street. At the end of Surrey Street turn left onto the Strand. Continue walking and you will first reach The Courtauld Institute of Art and then Duchy House on the corner of Strand and Lancaster Place.

Covent Garden (Piccadilly Line) - Turn left upon exiting the station then take the first right which is Long Acre. Continue down Long Acre and take the first right onto Bow Street. Walk on the left hand side of Bow Street. At the end of the road use the traffic lights to cross onto the Strand. After crossing the road Duchy House will be on the corner to your right with the Courtauld Institute reception along the Strand to your left.

Embankment (Bakerloo, Northern, District/Circle Lines) - Take the exit on the left when leaving the station then walk straight ahead along Villiers Street. At the end of Villiers Street turn right onto the Strand and continue walking. You will reach Duchy House First on the Corner of Strand and Lancaster Place, with The Courtauld Institute reception further along the Strand.

Charing Cross, Holborn, and Waterloo stations are also within 10 minutes walking distance of Duchy House.
