LSE Passfield Hall has a great location in leafy Bloomsbury. It is well placed for the West End and all of the main attractions of central London. The British Museum and British Library are only a short walk away.
Passfield offers a unique mix of classic Georgian architecture and modern facilities in central London.
History to the present day
Passfield Hall was LSE's first residence, opened in 1948. It is named after the first Lord Passfield, Sidney Webb, one of the four members of the Fabian Society who founded LSE in 1895.
It is a prime example of the late Georgian Town Houses that characterise Bloomsbury. The building itself comprises ten houses around a courtyard garden. Seven houses make up the main block and three the two annexes. Given its grade II listed status some rooms can only be accessed by stairs and the building retains its single glazed wooden sash windows.
In 2006 the building underwent an extensive £7m refurbishment programme and now offers a unique mix of modern facilities and classic architecture.
Food and Drinks
Accommodation at Passfield comes with an excellent breakfast: you get a choice of six items from a range of continental and English options, plus tea, coffee, toast and juice.
Passfield has a number of restaurants and cafes nearby. It is also just ten minutes walk from Charlotte Street, one of London's most famous eating destinations. There is a huge range on offer from cheap and cheerful to top notch, Thai to Italian, with everything in between.
Vending machines are available 24 hours a day in the dining room.
Grounds and gardens
Passfield boasts a walled courtyard garden - an ideal place to relax and unwind after a day in London or to take breakfast during the summer.

Miss PAULINE STOCK, April 2012: very good value for money, helpful staff and excellent breakfast
Miss Hannah Pettifer, April 2012: Great value accommodation - I've stayed in hotels which weren't as friendly, cheap and generally clean! I was delighted to see continental breakfast started early on this day as I was involved in the marathon and it was a good value breakfast.
Mrs Loretta Cribley, April 2012: I was very pleased with my whole stay, finding the reception most helpful, the room as expected and the breakfast very good. All staff were friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning to the rooms when I visit London again. Thank you for a positive experience
Mrs Ruth Nelmes, April 2012: This was our first experience of LSE halls I visited with my 18 yr old daughter and we shared a twin room. We were both very impressed with the overall experience .Extremely helpful and accomodating reception staff. Great value for money but clean and well organised and the breakfast was excellent. In view of London hotel prices going through the roof for the Olympics we will definatley use these halls again. Thanks for a great stay:)
Mr Patrick Heavey, December 2011: Excellent university accommodation in the heart of London. Cheap, & great value.
Miss Maria Grazia Chimenz, December 2011: I had a very agreeable stay at Passfield Hall and I will warmly recommend it at any friend who would like to spend a study-holiday in London. I take this opportunity to thank all the staff who were always kind and exhaustive in their replies, and ready to fulfill my requests. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Ms hannah kenway, December 2011: I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, the accommodation was excellent, location perfect, quiet but central and the breakfast was better than most hotel breakfasts costing much more. Would thoroughly recommend and will visit again.
